30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 5

Thank you, Robert Kurman et al, for these two textbooks, which I reach for on a near-daily basis (including today), always to find just the explanation, photo, or reference I am looking for.  You help me help others.

30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 4

Thankful for Jenny my piano teacher, who instructs and encourages me enthusiastically despite my increasing lassitude.  Music education was a resolution for 2012, and taking piano lessons was a great start.  As it happened I started lessons the very week of Baby H's conception, so my learning curve has been more flat than I would have hoped (fatigue, preoccupation, excuses, excuses).

However discouraging for this perfectionist, beginning to read music and connect the eyes and the mind and the fingers and the foot, albeit slowly, brings me a great deal of satisfaction, and for that I say, thank you, Jenny!

30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 3

The San Antonio Public Library.  The concept of the library is so marvelous (you go, select books, read them, return them, and then get more!) and its existence enriching to my life.  All learning/entertainment, no clutter.

This week I pinpointed the source of some vague anxiety- I am behind on my leisure reading (!), which is - as Marlo would say on The Wire - 'one of them good problems.' Novels, smoothie cookbooks, reference texts... it's too much!

Something cool: SAPL has purchased at least 15 items that I have submitted under the Suggest A Purchase feature.  Making me think I should serve on their board or at least curate the neurotic thirtysomething section.

30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 2

Bob might be your uncle but he's my dad.

My father possesses many wonderful qualities (compassion, selflessness, completely without vanity) but lately I've come to appreciate and treasure his creativity.

As a photographer/ naturalist:

My 2013 Turtles of Franklin County calendar just arrived.

Turtles are the ideal subjects "because they don't move very fast."

Woodworker/ potential Etsy shop owner:

I saw an initial planter on Pinterest and said, Dad, please make me an H!

When the planter is full of cacti, more pics will follow.

I begin to trace my creative or artistic impulses, unrealized or inchoate as they may be (knitting, sewing, spray-painting-of-old-furniture aspirations) to Dad, who thinks there is little that can't be accomplished with $200 and one, maybe two trips to Lowe's.

                                        I ♥ you, Dad!

30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 1

Inspired by Bless Her Heart, friends' pre-Thanksgiving grateful-for lists, and a recent comment by Dr. Andrew Weil about the restorative power of a gratitude journal, I will end 2012 with such a counting of blessings, an embarrassment of riches.

Day 1: an easy, healthy pregnancy so far.

We meet the baby girl in early February.
