Screenshots

Dark data from the screenshot album.

Doesn't apply to culottes, they're still terrible.

Shoe/skirt goalz.

Heather Cocks (and Jessica Morgan too) of Go Fug Yourself are such great writers (the graffiti she describes is life is the process of returning to love).

Anyone into combat boots these days? Anyone? Angela Chase?

How cute is a fairy door?

This made me stop in my tracks.

Screenshots

The New York Times Magazine featured an artist whose exhibition of her search history uncovers:
She captures the perversity that characterizes most of our relationships with the Internet. We obsess over our self-presentation on social media, while constantly leaving traces of our true selves elsewhere, often without even realizing it. Call it ‘‘dark data’’: the trail of information collected by companies like Amazon, Seamless and Uber about what we really do in our free time, about our splurges and snack preferences — all those unsharable details that we rarely boast about on our feeds.
I turned that over in my mind for a while. What do I think is interesting and/or important? Let's ask my camera roll.

Time for another round of screenshots!

More from my spiritual advisor Dallas Clayton. This made me laugh out loud.

Bwhahaaha.

Go get 'em tiger!

Pink and red is my favorite color combination.

LET IT OUT!

Also, goldfish and banana peels.

Grow!

Sofabulous.

Been there.

I was dangerously close to losing the inability to even recently.

Amanda and I are buying these hats. Then solving mysteries. Even if those mysteries are the whereabouts of the cheapest mimosas in St Louis (we spent all of our money on $200 hats).

This book is a quick enjoyable read.

Dallas Hartwig of Whole 30 fame drops some real truth bombs on Instagram (see photo and accompanying text). I'm off of Facebook for the month.

Not sure where she's going but I want to go there too.

FOMO.

Screenshots

Scrolling through my phone camera roll and I noticed a bunch of screenshots, mostly from IG, that make me laugh/think/feel/plan.

The Tao of Dallas

Ugh.

YEAH!

Now?

Dreamy living room of a vintage clothes seller in Michigan. I think her feed is the perfect combination of work and life.

MEDITATE ON IT. Today is my first whole food day of the month (so far: two eggs, a banana, and some pistachios. Lunch: roasted chicken and broccolini and grapes. Dinner will be a desperate scrounge, likely an avocado, tomatoes, and almond butter? Maybe?)

Rachel Carson's words.

Rainbow succulents!

More from Dallas, my spiritual advisor.

Don't think about this too much, it gets depressing.

WINGS!

I was able to snag these in pink and deeply discounted... and they are ridiculous.

Whoa.

My version: "I'll keep your kitchen well-stocked with Sriracha".

Rollz.

Now for some snark...

Not snark because it's TRUE and she never forgets!

Laughed out loud.

Snort-laughed out loud.

Phone Use

My friend Jackie wrote a great blog post about a great idea -- breaking up with your phone.

Following her lead I've been using Moment for three days. And...

Gulp.

For someone who complains about having no time, it would seem I have a LOT of time. At first I thought it was counting the 40 minutes spent listening to an audiobook* on the way home -- but it wasn't. Gulp.

After learning that I pick up my phone up to TWENTY-FIVE TIMES A DAY, I'm trying some new strategies:

1) Consolidating pick-ups. I use MyFitnessPal and instead of making diary entries morsel by morsel, I'm entering after lunch and at the end of the day. Same for e-mail.

2) Not rushing to look up every little curious-to-verify factoid.

3) Catching up on my Feedly feed just once or twice a day, while I'm eating lunch al desko.

*Dear San Antonio Public Library, thank you for your cutting edge digital services.

Happy Friday!

Have a great weekend! We are getting ready for a baby who may arrive sooner rather than later (putting sheet on mini crib - unfolding some tiny clothes - buying new pajamas to live in - waiting)  and thinking of fun things to do while Luke plays a couple of gigs. We might check out this burger place with an astroturfed play area or take refuge in the air conditioning of The Fancy Mall. (Forecast: mid 90s).

Some good stuff from around the webs and not-webs:

Body confidence, thy name is this woman

Typography wars! If you watched Helvetica, you will recognize these partners turned foes.

I never particularly want to see a movie in the theater but I really want to see Maleficent! (Luke: That's weird.) Maybe next Friday during the Y's Parents' Night Out = $20 Babysitting.

Are you following @youdidnoteatthat on Instagram? Hilarious.

Intrigued by the Cooking Light Diet plan, a semi-customizable list of menus for $3.75/week, 'cause mama has her work cut out for her after this baby comes. I have a lot of healthy cookbooks but a plan that uses ingredients from one meal to the next (like the Fresh 20) to reduce waste would be very helpful. I have been most successful recently just roasting a couple of pork tenderloins, zapping some frozen quinoa and steamable veggies, and stashing these little meals in the fridge. Luke drowns his in Sriracha (aka Julie repellent) and I squeeze on a little Sweet Baby Ray's and for about 15 minutes of hands-on time and less than $3 a serving, we are eating healthier than before.

Happy Father's Day! Take us out, Jimmy Fallon and Gov. Christie:

Here & There

Ingenious salad dressing bottle with instructions for Asian, Caesar, French, Greek, Italian, Vinaigrette, Balsamic Vinaigrette, and Honey Mustard. It's on its way to my house.

Say NO to busy! (New York Times)

On the 'older than my years' front: contemplating a Gentle Souls purchase (any recommendations out there -- worth it?) and enjoying More magazine ('Why are you reading that? It's for old ladies.' -- my mother) [ps gold booties!!!]

To try: vegan banana cherry garcia ice cream (via The Simple Veganista) Doesn't that look delicious? Everything's in the freezer already.

Scandi-fab macrame plant holders and mobiles

Foil packets! Will this finally be the summer I start grilling? Inspiration: grilled desserts (Food & Wine), molasses pork chops with peach slaw and other grill packets from self.com, and 50 Things To Grill in Foil foodnetwork.com

Have a great weekend!

This & That: Mostly Media Edition

On the Oscar movie catch-up front,  Dallas Buyers Club was excellent. It had some beautiful moments (the butterfly scene, if you've seen it). Waiting on 12 Years a Slave. Other Netflix picks: I really enjoyed the unusual approach and subject matter of Stories We Tell and Mitt was an even-handed documentary about Mitt Romney and his family. They are likable, earnest folks even though he can't totally shake the automaton image.

My office crock pot is awesome...until I spilled 20 oz of piping hot broccoli cheese soup everywhere - so take it from me, keep the bowl in the warming vessel during transport and consumption. Be an office hermit and enjoy a warm homemade lunch al desko.

Despite attending a ginormous state university, Greek life is still a mystery to me and Caitlin Flanagan's Atlantic article confirms all of my preconceived notions (if you are involved in higher ed or have an older kid you might be interested.)

I needed my CV revamped and have zero word-processing skills so Luke suggested Elance.com.  I made my proposal and within a few hours had several bids. So far so good, my CV should be ready this week. If you need online work done this seems like a great resource.

What a great American

The Lego movie is so meta! (And this essay so well-written) [NYT magazine]

And, cute sheets and toys (I wonder if C would be fooled by this phone) and so many other things I need to browse at Biscuit Home, perhaps when we go to the Houston rodeo later this month! Yeehaw!
