Pretty Powerful

Checked out Bobbi Brown's new book Pretty Powerful and will summarize what I learned about good makeup for you:

BLUSH.

All of the women featured in the book- younger, older, classic beauty, plain Jane, famous - are wearing blush. (Mom-- you have always been a blush advocate and I hope you feel vindicated.)

The book is definitely worth a trip to the library ($30 for a perusal and mental note to wear more blush (+ cream eyeshadow + narrow eyeliner)... no).  Check out a preview here, a sample look, and The Secret of the Universe.

Likes & Finds

One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats.
Iris Murdoch

A skincare/makeup best-of list, starting with my newest find:

Boscia Oil-free Hydration SPF 15 ($36) I wish it had a little more SPF oomph, but what it does have is superior texture and matte finish without velvetiness.  Go get yourself some.

Armani Luminous Silk foundation  ($59) The best.  (But Julie, it's $59!  I know.  Just think of all the inferior products in the wrong shade you won't buy.)

YSL lipsticks ($32)  Again, get a pink and a red and something exciting and then no more lipsticks ever.  The Goldlilocks of lipstick - just-right texture (not glossy-not matte), staying power, and great colors.  I was wearing No. 19 (Fuchsia) when some guy came up to me and said, 'I like your lipstick.  It would look trashy on other people, but on you it looks nice.' AND NOW WE'RE HAVING A BABY. I don't know how else to convince you that this is special stuff.

Speaking of The Baby, nursery planning starts with accessories, no?  How cute are these elephants? (Cecil & Clyde)

Tee hee: Hilarious how the other professionals cannot keep a straight face as Dr. Ruth dispenses her advice.

Nate and Laura get married!

Nate is Luke's youngest brother and when the clan - seven siblings and fifteen grandchildren to date-gets together, it's a happy tumult of kids and smiles...

Weekend No. 4 Out of Town: St Louis, Part Deux, for Robin and Will's reception at my parents' home.

In the morning I attended a cytology meeting and saw a bunch of my old coworkers - so fun to catch up. (On the gossip).

Registrants had to wear a cardigan to gain entry to the meeting.

Then back to WashMO for the festivities.  Sadly short on party pics.  The house was lovely, the food was great, and the company so fun.

Family fun train rolls on with my brother-in-law's wedding in Michigan this weekend!  Then to some serious nesting in October-- making jam, thinking about baby schtuffs, getting the nursery ready....
